Brunch at Old Salt Marketplace

Food

Last summer I had set out on a mission to try all of the highest rated brunch spots in Portland but I started with Old Salt and ever since I’ve just wanted to go there again and again… Needless to say, I’m still working on trying new places. But it’s difficult when all I’ve been craving is this place!

I went here twice in an effort to try more of their menu and both times they exceeded my expectations!

The Old Salt Marketplace is located on 42nd ave, just North of Alberta St, in Portland, OR. The Marketplace serves lunch all week and they have a deli with a wide selection of the finest meats in Portland. They also have a restaurant and bar, where they serve brunch on weekends!

I came here for the first time last summer with my friends Zoe and Mitch. One of the best parts about Old Salt is that the ambience is very casual and relaxed, it’s not the kind of brunch you dress up for. Dressing up fancy is always fun but sometimes it’s nice to just roll out of bed and throw on a denim jacket instead…

As soon as you walk into the restaurant the deli is on your right as well as a door that leads into Miss Zumstein Bakery and Coffee Shop, where you are more than welcome to order a coffee while you wait for a table and can enjoy it in the restaurant. Miss Zumstein’s cinnamon rolls have a spot on Old Salt’s menu and they are divine! Served warm and with a nice dollop of cream cheese frosting on the top.

The menu changes, depending on what’s in season, but classics such as Eggs Benedict and sausage gravy over biscuits are always available.

Both are so delicious! And those potatoes on the side? Salt potatoes. They are, by far, the best potatoes I have ever had!
And then I tried some seasonal options that weren’t on the menu over the summer. Pictured below are a spicy beef sausage scramble and creamed chanterelles & creminis on brioche, served with two fried eggs and salt potatoes.

If you’re ever in the mood for some brunch in the Portland area, then I highly recommend Old Salt!

Note: they only offer brunch on the weekend, form 9:00am – 3:00pm. Get there early to avoid the 11:00am rush!
