Blue skies, warm sunshine, and fresh peaches are what awaited on Sauvie Island in Portland, OR.
One of the things I value the most when it comes to eating well is fresh, local produce and I’m lucky enough to live close by to so many farms that offer just that! While Fall might be my favorite season for vegetables, Summer is my favorite for fruit. This summer I joined my mom for an awesome day trip down to Sauvie Island for peach picking.
For a day on the island I opted for a light, linen shirt to keep me cool in the 80 degree weather and some basic Levi’s shorts. This hat was an awesome addition and I’ve actually had it for years but never worn it. Not sure what I was thinking… It helped me get away without wearing sunscreen and I didn’t need to bring along sunglasses. For shoes I wore Toms because they have been my comfy go-to shoe this summer and the light grey color went nicely with my neutral pallet. I let the peaches have the color spotlight this round!
Whether you want to make cobbler, bellinis, or canned peaches I would highly recommend Sauvie Island Farms for your next trip. It’s such a fun activity to do with friends and family and beats a trip to the supermarket any day. Plus, buying in bulk gives you a chance to be really creative in order to make the fruit last long after they’re out of season. My personal favorite way to savor the peaches? I freeze them and enjoy them in smoothies for the rest of the summer!
What is your favorite seasonal fruit? Any other tips on how to make the most of them while they’re in season?
