Il Mercatino Francese Belle Epoque

Travel

Happy Monday! Today I’m craving some macarons (just like every other day) and I was thinking about this time last year when I was studying abroad and discovered this awesome market…

This weekend is the La Belle Epoque Market in Florence. Also known as “Il Mercatino Francese Belle Epoque.” This market is awesome and I highly recommend not missing out! I went last year when my roommates were off traveling and I was in town alone, doing some solo exploring. It is located in the Piazza SS. Maria Annunziata from September 17th to October 2nd.

This market is full of every kind of French delicacy and it hangs around for about two weeks. They sell delicious sweet treats, classic French food, French wine, spices, and so much more! I’ve heard the food is amazing but I personally stuck to the treats that I couldn’t take my eyes off of.

While I was there I tasted this weird, but delicious, treat that looked and tasted like a chocolate covered coconut cloud. The name was in French but let’s assume it was called that.

I also had to get a box of macarons because what is a trip to a French market without macarons?

I tried some other classic French cookies at one stand and then wandered upon this one. I never bought any candy because I wanted to save money and I had already had so many sweets but I regret it immensely. The fact that I can’t tell you what those giant strawberries are still keeps me up at night…

This market is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon if you’re visiting Florence this month so definitely wander down that way! The Piazza is also in neat part of the city. It’s still within the city center but also offers you a peak at the quiet, downtown neighborhoods.

If you are ever in Florence towards the end of September then check it out! Any guesses as to what those giant strawberries are??
